Run to Jesus!

Speaker: Paul Martin Series: Good News for a Weary World Scripture: Romans 10:5–13

Context: You cannot earn eternal life by doing good works

Text: Romans 10

[5] For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that “the person who does the commandments shall live by them.” [Leviticus 18:19]

[6] But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, [Deuteronomy 9:4] ’Who will ascend into heaven?’” [Deut. 30:12] (that is, to bring Christ down) [7] “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” [Deut. 30:13] (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). [8] But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” [Deut. 30:14] (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);

[11] For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” [Isaiah 28:16]

[13] For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” [Joel 2:32]

Three good reasons to abandon works-righteousness and run to Jesus:

  1. There is no way you can keep the Law anymore (5)
  2. There is no way for you to be righteous enough in yourself to please God (6a)
  3. There are no excuses left to reject Jesus once you have heard about him (6b-13)
