- Before you became a Christian, your evil sin was activated by God’s righteous Law to lead you to transgress the commandment (1-13)
- A death changes how we relate to the law
- The Christian Paul’s retrospective analysis of himself before God saved him
- A warning to you if you are not yet a Christian
- The stuff you failed at as an unbeliever still messes with you even after God has saved you (14-25)
- We occasionally break the Law we love
- We constantly live in a battle against remaining sin — “the flesh”
- Our flesh (physical body) is all tied with “the flesh” (principle of sin)
- We are not spiritually schizophrenic, but we do live with competing realities
Conclusion
- If you are feeling bad about your sins, that is a good sign you are truly saved.
- If you know the positive commands God expects you to accomplish, even if you are not doing them well, then praise God you know the truth!
- Warfare at this level is tiring, but normal.
