Don't Be a Hypocrite

November 10, 2024 Speaker: Paul Martin Series: Good News for a Weary World

Topic: Expository Preaching Scripture: Romans 2:1–29

Statement of the Argument: You Jews are hypocrites because you condemn the Gentiles for doing the very sins you commit (1-5)

A. Condemners will be condemned (1-3)

B. Condemners despise God’s gracious patience (4-5)

Supporting Points to the Main Argument:

  1. God judges every person on the basis of their works (6-11)
  2. Possession of the Law does not mean you are saved. Obedience to the Law is evidence you have been justified (12-16)
  3. Jewish hypocrisy in itself deserves even greater condemnation because it obscures the Gospel (17-24)
  4. A closing illustration: Circumcision of the heart beats circumcision of the flesh every time (25-29)
