1. The old covenant failed because many priests with many sacrifices could only
remind of sins – not take them away.

a. Because it was never the real deal (1)

b. Because it could not cleanse the conscience (2)

c. Because all it could do was remind of how bad things were (3-4)

2. The new covenant succeeds because one Priest by one sacrifice took away sins!

a. Christ took on your flesh (5-6)

b. Christ bore your sin (7)

c. Christ made you holy (8-10)

3. Even the old covenant predicted the new covenant would be better!

a. Psalm 110 said the day would come when:

i. Jesus would triumphantly wait for the display of His final victory

ii. And the perfected ones would get sanctified in the meantime

b. Jeremiah 31 said the day would come when:

i. God would place the expulsive power of His Word right in us

ii. And the forgiven would no longer have to worry about punishment for sin
