Delight by Enduring

December 28, 2008 Speaker: Paul Martin Series: New Year's Message

Topic: Expository Preaching Scripture: Hebrews 12:1–5, 1 Peter 2:21

Rev 14:12

“Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.”

How do we endure to the end?

I. Look to Jesus

--- A. Look at Who He is
--- “the founder and perfecter of our faith,”

--- B. Look at What He Did
--- “who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame”

--- C. Look at Where He is
--- “is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The Need for Encouraging Brothers: The Christian Life as Marathon
Running alongside you in this race is the Devil

--- --- 1. He will attempt to DISTRACT you
--- --- 2. He will try to DEFLATE you

3:12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

10:24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

II. Consider Jesus

“Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.”

If the Devil uses Distraction and Deflation to get our eyes off Jesus, He will use Deception and Deluge to keep us from considering Jesus.

--- --- 1. He will seek to DELUGE you
--- --- 2. He will scheme to DECEIVE you

What does it mean to consider Him?

--- A. Consider who He is
--- B. Consider What He Did
--- C. Consider Why He Suffered
